Zoo

August 31st, 2008 by UFO in Denmark

This weekend I'm just relaxing end enjoying to explore my new neighbourhood. There is the Odense zoo nearby, so I took a bike and rode there.

The zoo looks very natural, there are lot of trees everywhere and very few cages (except for the animals like tigers and such). The things I like the most are:

  • Large aviary with tropical birds and large parrots.
  • West Indian Manatees (or „Sea cows“) – just see the photo gallery and you will know, why they are called like that.
  • The penguins :-).

Penguin fascinated by all the people behind the glass.

The penguins was the best animals for me, they looked really cute. After I came back home I took something to eat and headed to the park, because some Lithuanians had a barbecue there. In fact, sitting in a park and having barbecue on a one-time-use-grill is a typical Danish leisure activity. For me, it was another well-spent afternoon in Denmark.

Bike trip on Saturday afternoon

August 30th, 2008 by UFO in Denmark

This afternoon I got nothing special to do, so I decided to take bike and go explore the Odense fjord. It is not so far from the city, the journey had 22 km in total. I really enjoyed it.

Some of the photos in the gallery are from the morning when I was walking in the city streets searching for Netto :-).

First days in Odense

August 29th, 2008 by UFO in Denmark

I am alive and well in Odense. I live in Teknisk Kollegium (map) near Odense Centre. It is quite beautiful here and you can be in the centre in 5 minutes. Weather has been nice so far, so it was not raining all the time.

Distance to main campus is approx. 5 km, fortunately I have a bike here. We have been there just for the orientation days (introduction + free sandwiches). The lectures will start from Monday. My schedule is not that good, on Tuesdays, Wednesdays and Thursdays i need to be there at 8.15.

Of course we had a party, we started slowly in the kitchen and at eleven o'clock we went to Australian bar. On Thurdays they have a beer for 10 kr., so it definitely is a good place to be :-).

Today I went to pay for the accomodation. I needed to pay the deposit and the rent for the whole August and September. It was 10 975 kr. in total and, of course, I had to pay it in cash, because you can only use Danish credit card at the post office. I am really looking forward to have my CPR number so I can open a Danish bank account.

Off I go

August 26th, 2008 by UFO in Denmark

I am starting to pack all my things, because in the afternoon I am leaving to Odense. I am traveling by car on route:

Ostrava → Wrocław → Berlin → Hamburg → Flensburg → Odense

Hopefully everything will be all right and I will be in Odense tomorrow in the morning.

Farewell Roskilde

August 23rd, 2008 by UFO in Denmark, EILC

In the morning I said goodbye to the friends from EILC course and left Roskilde. Thanks to my friend Aga I had a ride to the airport, so I didn't have to take a train. I'm very grateful to her. The flight from Copenhagen to Vienna was without any problems. Since it was raining heavily in Copenhagen (unexpected surprise :-D), I couldn't see much from the plane's window, just clouds.

Me & Aga at CPH

Now I have a spare time, because I'm waiting at the Vienna International Airport for the Student Agency bus to Brno. After that my parents will pick me up, because there is not train heading to Ostrava at that time. Hopefully, I'll be at home before midnight.

Language course is over

August 22nd, 2008 by UFO in Denmark, EILC

Today is the last day of the intensive language course. In the morning we all sat down in the class, got some coffee and sandwiches and obtained our certificates. For the three weeks of „hard work“ we got 6 ECTS credits.

I'm staying in campus until tomorrow, then i'm going to Copenhagen to catch my flight to Vienna. So I have one more day to enjoy the delightful Danish weather.

I’ve passed a Danish exam!

August 21st, 2008 by UFO in Denmark, EILC

Today was the last lecture of the Danish intensive language course. We had to pass an oral exam, which consisted of two parts:

  1. Short presentation about the project, in my case about the Danish food.
  2. Dialogue with a fellow-student (actually series of questions and answers) about a random picture.

Tomorrow we will receive certificate of completion, evaluate the course. It will be the official ending of the course.

Visit to Louisiana

August 21st, 2008 by UFO in Denmark, EILC

On Tuesday we visited Lousiana Museum of Modern Art situated near the town of Humlebæk. After a hour and half long journey by train we finally arrived there. It was a nice place with many artworks and site-specific works, mostly statues.

We took a guided tour through the most parts of the museum (inside and outside) and then we sat for a cup of coffee in the café and enjoyed a view at the sea and the Swedish coastline.

Trip to Sweden

August 18th, 2008 by UFO in Denmark, EILC, Traveling

Yesterday we took a journey to Sweden. It was very spontaneous, we decided to do so during the breakfast. So after we finished eating, we packed our things and headed towards Malmö (by two cars, ten people).

Oresund bridge was really spectacular! It definitely is a masterpiece among the bridge constructions. Its only drawback is the price for passage, cost for one car is 260 kr. (one-way).

Our first stop was Malmö. We just walked throughout the city streets and looked at the stuff served at stands there. Since we had not any Swedish money, we just looked and smelled all the delicious things. After we were tired of walking, we sat down into Burger King and had very healthy lunch.

After the lunch we drove do Trelleborg. We just stopped there to see the beach and then continued along the coast to Ystad.

Ystad is a small, but quite beautiful town. We enjoyed our stroll there and bought some food in local „Jednota“ (coop) store. I was very suprised when I found out that they sold Staropramen (as a Czech premium beer), but for 12,50 kr. per 0,33 liter bottle.

In the evening we stopped at some beach for a while and then headed back home. It was a very nice day.

Sommerballet

August 16th, 2008 by UFO in Denmark, EILC

Yesterday, after our delicious typical Danish lunch, we traveled to Klampenborg to see the premiere of Sommerballet in Bellevue Teartet. It was a modern ballet and also a first ballet I have ever seen. I really liked the performance.
