My new bike

December 13th, 2008 by UFO in Denmark

I have finally felt so sick of riding the piece of junk I own that I decided to buy something better as a Christmas gift for myself :-). I bought one almost unused from my friend Megan, who was leaving home to USA and could not take the bike with her. I really like it, I can achieve the same speeds with half the effort and it does not make weird sounds while riding.

My new bike, Mustang mudslide :-D

Unfortunately, it did not stay „new“ for long. Just after one day I made too sharp turn and made very nice slide on the icy tarmac (in fact, not so nice). I am more or less fine, just my wrist hurts a little. The bike survived too, with minor scratches and broken front reflecting light :-). Next time I will try to be more careful…

Pancakes and milk party

November 3rd, 2008 by UFO in Denmark

Saturdays are usually relaxing days after parties on Fridays nights. And this Saturday was not an exception. We decided to plan something non-alcoholic, so the pancake and milk party was the perfect choice. Antanas prepared the dough (special recipe :-D) and we fried it.

The pancakes were very delicious, everything disappeared in a short while. That is the main reason why you cannot see any photo from the „feeding time“ :-). After we finished eating, we played the game named Alias). It was very difficult, because everybody was sooo tired. When we finished approximately half of it, we decided that it would be better to go to sleep.

It was a really quiet and nice day of doing nothing :-).

House of H. C. Andersen

November 2nd, 2008 by UFO in Denmark

After a small pause I am writing posts again :-). Last week we went to visit the H. C. Andersen's house. The actual house is just a very small part of the large museum. As a visitor you can read and see almost everything about Andersen's life.

For me, the excursion was quite boring. Sure, something was interesting, but most of the displayed things were just things of daily use „touched“ by H. C. Andersen.

CPH and Christiania

October 12th, 2008 by UFO in Denmark

Today I came to visit my friend Réka to Copenhagen. I came there in the afternoon and left all my thing at her place. After that we went to the city, I went by train, she went by bike, so I got a little time to walk through the city centre and do some shopping.

Part of Christiania from the outside

We met near the Christianshavn metro station and headed to the Christiania. We stayed in Christiania for a quite long time, because it is a big and nice place. Unfortunately it is forbidden to take photos there, that is why you cannot see any in the photo gallery.

I could not enjoy night life in Copenhagen. I needed to go to sleep soon, because I had to be at the airport at 7 o'clock on the following day.

Danske Bank S01E04

October 8th, 2008 by UFO in Denmark

Today I got things moving. Since I didn't receive anything in last three weeks, I went to the bank, again, to ask, what was going on. I have a bad luck, almost every time I go there, I talk to the same woman. When I explained my problem (in a polite way, of course), she disappeared and brought the financial advisor, so I entered another level of discussions :-).

The people at the cash desks don't know anything about banking, they even don't know which products the bank offers and some of them seem disgusted with their work. But your only option is to deal with them and have strong nerves. But on the other hand, the financial advisor was exactly the type of person I am used to meet in banks. He said he was very sorry and that he didn't know what could happen, but he offered the solution of creating the new contract, that I would sign tomorrow.

So I hope, from tomorrow everything will be all right.

Friday in Roskilde

October 6th, 2008 by UFO in Denmark

After the whole Friday spent inside Copenhagen I went to visit my friends to Roskilde. Since it was Friday and I was not there for some time, we needed to celebrate. During the party we finished the last supplies from home, as you can see in the photo gallery.

„Baked animals“

Most of the people went partying to the Roskilde city after 11 o'clock, but I stayed and went to sleep, because I needed to get up early and be able to listen to the lectures during the next day.

Open Source Days 2008

October 6th, 2008 by UFO in Denmark, Tech

At the beginning of the semester I joined the FKO organization, that takes care of running the network infrastructure in the dormitories. Since most of the people working there are volunteers, the FKO organizes some events for them. So I had a great opportunity to attend the conference Open Source Days 2008, which took place on Friday and Saturday in the Copenhagen University.

I attended many interesting and (at least for me :-D) inspiring lectures. I also talked to some of the presenting people about their lectures and products to get more information. I have to say that I really liked it and I am glad that I could be there.

On Friday afternoon I wanted to walk a little around Copenhagen, but since it was raining and I was tired, I rather headed directly to the train station and headed to visit my friends to Roskilde.

Trip around Odense

September 28th, 2008 by UFO in Denmark

Today we got lucky with the weather. The Sun was shining almost all day, there was only light wind and temperature around 18˚C. We decided to take a small bike trip around Odense, so we took our „mighty GPS“ (small, a little bit useless map of bike roads) and went towards unexplored lands :-).

Very nice windmill

When we arrived to the beginning of the Odense fjord, we decided to take a shortcut. The word shortcut really fulfilled its definition, it means the way back home was at least three times longer. Fortunately we found Burger King on the way and could replenish our energy with good healthy meal.

It was a very nice day, we had a great time. But next time we should bring a proper map, so Inese would not feel lost with us ;-).

Work, work and more work

September 23rd, 2008 by UFO in Denmark

I didn't have time to write lately, because I am starting several school projects. I hope I will have some free time when I won't need to read, write nor prepare something (maybe in the winter holiday :-D). Yes, sometimes even students have to do something else then party and have fun.

Danske Bank S01E03

September 16th, 2008 by UFO in Denmark

Yes, the series continues!! Now with even more thrilling story…

I finally found the papers from the bank in my mailbox yesterday. It contained covering letter, two copies of the contract and large user guide, everything completely in Danish (ja, selvfølgelig). I took the contracts and rode to the danske bank branch in the centre of Odense. I showed the contracts to the clerk, she read through, just as she saw something like it for the first time, and told me, where should I sign it. So far, so good.

After I signed it, it happened something, I would not have expected in my worst nightmare. She said to me that I should send the papers to them by post (WTF!!? #4). I had to catch my breath, because that was simply too much for me. When I told her, that I am really angry about all of this, she replied that she would send it by herself. Fine, at least something good.

Now I am really curious about what will happen next. Everything should arrive by post (how else), so I will be waiting. I have to take it as a training of my skills for dealing with bureaucracy.
