Relax in Druskininkai

June 11th, 2010 by UFO in Lithuania, Traveling

Last weekend we visited town of Druskininkai. We stayed there in Eglė spa, where we had accommodation and three days of treatments (for action price :-D). Treatments contained massages (normal and underwater), mud bath, excercises swimming pools and drinking some sort of herbal tea. It was fun and a good experience.

Mud bath. It was fun except the cleaning part :-).

I have to mention the food, it was just great: buffet three times a day, so we were almost permanently stuffed.

On Saturday afternoon we visited Grūto parkas, which is a large park with large exposition of soviet sculptures and artifacts.

It was a very relaxing weekend, maybe we will repeat it some day.

On my way to Lithuania

June 6th, 2010 by UFO in Lithuania, Traveling

Right after finishing the meeting with my former classmates and a very short sleep I started my journey to Vilnius. First I had to take train to Warsaw, where I then had almost five hours to change to a Simple Express bus.

I used the shoping centre next to the central train station as a temporary shelter and got a lunch. Then, to shorten my waiting, I wanted to fin wireless and sit somewhere with laptop. I had no idea, what was going on, but in the whole shopping centre I could not get to free internet anywhere, not even in McDonald's, KFC and several other places :-(. When I finally gave up, I went to walk aroung to take some pictures.

In the evening I took a bus and left Warsaw. The rest of the journey went quite smoothly, because I managed to sleep it though :-).

Vilnius instead of London

April 25th, 2010 by UFO in Lithuania, Traveling

Considering our unsuccessful trip to London that ended in a pub in Ostrava I bought the ticket to Vilnius, Lithuania to go to see Alina. Travelling there was not so funny from the beginning, because I still felt a little wasted from the last night, but I managed to overcome it.

Castle Street in the Vilnius city centre

It was very nice to be in Vilnius again, I really like the city. The weather was nice and we were mostly walking in the streets and enjoying. I also had to try as much as possible from the Lithuanian cuisine, so food during my stay was mainly provided by the Čili restaurant chain :-).

I regret I was there for such a sort time, I hope I will return there as soon as possible. But first I have to finish my school projects and exams :-(.

London Trip

April 23rd, 2010 by UFO in Traveling

Me and my friends from Ostrava had plans to visit London for a couple of days. Everything was planned since September and everything was going well. We started our journey by train from Ostrava to Prague, from where we were supposed to continue by plane. However, after ten minutes in the train a friend, that had organized accommodation at his place, called he had been able to depart from Bratislava because of Volcano on Iceland. We started to check the news and our excitement about visiting London faded quickly away.

Friends going to London with me: Iveta, Lukáš and Xyron

In the airport there was a lot of cancelled flights, but ours was without any information. An idea to ask questions at the information desk had at least other fifty people, so we rather sat at McDonald's and got a menu :-). Just two hours before the departure the flight was cancelled.

With sadness we went to take a train home, where we consumed another menu (this time bought at Burger King :-D) and two bottles of vodka. In the end we finished the bitter experience in the local pub.

At the time of writing I am glad we did not depart, because we would have been stuck there for much longer time than we were supposed to. Our real London trip was re-scheduled to the middle of August, I am looking forward to it.

Overnight stay in Vienna

April 7th, 2010 by UFO in Traveling

Alina was leaving Romania in the end of March and since she had 18 hours to change flight in Vienna, I came to visit her there. We strolled around the city, saw the important sights and took pictures.

In the evening we went for a dinner, I got a Wienerschitzel :-P. It had the size of a big plate, they had to serve potato salad next to it, because it would not fit there. It was sooo delicious.

Next day Alina took her bus to the airport and I wandered and waited for mine.

One last time in Romania

March 16th, 2010 by UFO in Traveling

Last time I wrote I was going last time to visit Alina to Romania. But I had a free weekend, so why not to go again :-). This time we went to Arad, because it is not so complicated to get there for both of us. Of course I again had my McDonald's sessions near Budapest train station, because I had missed my train due to delay :-).

Cathedral in Arad

I liked the stay there, we had a lot of fun, visited karaoke with Alina's teacher, hitchhiked to Timisoara to see the movie Alice in Wonderland and also strolled through the city.

I think it relly was the last visit to Romania for some time, because Alina is flying home very soon.

Timisoara and Arad

February 21st, 2010 by UFO in Traveling

The stay of Alina in Romania is coming to an end soon. That is why I went to visit her there one more time. We agreed to meet in Sintana, a small town Alina lives in. From there we went to Timisoara for the weekend. We also walked in the city and went to see the Avatar movie there. I really liked the story and 3D effects were stunning, sometimes too much for my stomach :-).

Victory Square with The Metropolitan Orthodox Cathedral

We also enjoyed the spa facility in the hotel, it was very relaxing to be in saunas and jacuzzi :-P. On the last day we traveled from Timisoara to Arad to have a dinner and wait for our trains home.

Train home had delay, like always. I missed my change in Budapest by ten minutes, so I waited for McDonald's to open and then had a long breafast there. It was much better than waiting in the cold train station. After four hours I could finally take my train home :-).

Budapest Revisited

December 23rd, 2009 by UFO in Traveling

More than two weeks ago me and Alina met each other in Budapest, where we spent longer weekend. For me it was, again, a big opportunity to forget about school and work and relax, at least for a little while. We planned to visit many sights that we had not before, so lying in bed was not an option :-).

Journey there was quite interesting, Alina was supposed to arrive to Budapest almost three hours before I was, but in the end, due to delays on both sides, we came in the same time. Sometimes a long delay is good for something, especially when you have to wait in the frozen train station with almost no place to sit.

Holy Crown of Hungary in Hungarian Parliament Building

First on our list of „places of interest“ was the ZOO. The place was nice, with lot of kinds of animals and interesting exhibitions, but as any other ZOO in winter, it was deserted. We should probably visit it again in summer to get the full picture. Next stop after ZOO was the Hungarian Parliament. Since the tickets for EU-citizens are free, the English tour had been „sold-out“ when we got there. Because of that we decided to take Russian tour. The guide was speaking slow, so I understood the bigger part of it. And what I did not, Alina explained to me later.

In the morning we started from Palvölgyi Cave, where we took a nice excursion, fortunately with English commentary. Later that day we also visited The Memento Museum, which is a museum with large exhibition of statues from the Soviet era and the Tropicarium, where we could see a lot of fish of different shapes and colours.

It was a very nice weekend for me, unfortunately I had to go back to school reality the next day :-(. If you plan to visit Budapest, I can only recommend it. But be prepared for quite high prices and complicated public transport system (at least from tourist's point of a view).

Weekend in Oradea

November 18th, 2009 by UFO in Traveling

I had another of my traveling weekends to visit Alina in Romania. This time, we chose to see the city of Oradea. Czech railways did not surprise again. When I came to Brno trainstation, the train had already been delayed for almost an hour. That is why i missed the change in Budapest and had to wait three hours there. I think I am getting used to that.

It was raining heavily in Oradea, so we just went to the hotel and then to grab some beers in the pub nearby :-).

The Black Eagle Hotel in Oradea

Next day we walked in the city to see all of the important sights and also visited the Oradea Zoo. The animals were mostly taken from the forest and put into tiny dirty cages. I was quite depressing to see that. You can see that from the pictures.

We finished our day by going to the cinema to watch the Christmas Carol, which was a movie I liked very much. Before sleeping we went to the Cyrano restaurant for a dinner. The meal was simply delicious :-P. And the amount of food was so big, that I had a lunch for a journey home from that :-).

The way back to Brno was long, I had to wait in Budapest for four hours. I used that time to had coffee and cake in McDonald's and then go to Tesco to buy some souvenirs, e.g. wine and palinka :-D.

Weekend in Sibiu

September 29th, 2009 by UFO in Traveling

Last weekend I went to see Alina to Romania. I took a very early train from Brno to Arad. Of course I had a long delay because of tough passport checking at Hungarian-Romanian border. Fortunately I was in time to meet Alina in Arad and get in the next train to Sibiu in central Romania (there is only one direct train per day).

After arrival we took a cab to the hotel. I was very surprised about the hotel, everything was very nice there. We went to the hotel restaurant to take a dinner and try some of the local wines. It was delicious (and wine also quite strong :-D). We were very tired from the journey so we went to sleep early.

In the morning after breakfast we went to the city centre, where we strolled, took a lunch and climbed up a tower to see the whole city. You can see some pictures in the photo gallery.

Next day it was the time to go home again. But before that we went to see Arad for a while and take a lunch there. I took a train at 4 o'clock in the afternoon and I was home at 2 o'clock in the morning. Hopefully I could buy a menu in McDonald's in Budapest to not starve :-P.

The weekend was very relaxing for me (maybe except the nearly 2500 km spent in trains), I would like to repeat something like that again.
